1. How can I register my child at HindiUSA?

HindiUSA St. Louis is an official school of HindiUSA.
We follow a well-established curriculum that aligns with the school year. We offer 9 levels of Hindi classes, and each level uses 3–4 books, including:
We also use physical and digital flashcards to make learning Hindi engaging and interactive. Our new school portal allows students to practice basic Hindi vocabulary through online flashcards.

5. What if my child is a 5th grader and does not know Hindi? What level would they start at?
Students are initially assigned to a level based on their age/grade:
However, during the first two weeks of classes, parents are encouraged to communicate with the teacher and request a student assessment if they feel a different level may be more appropriate.
Based on the student’s age, grade, Hindi proficiency, and learning needs, the class teacher will assess the student and discuss the placement with the parents and School Coordinator. If needed, the student may be reassigned to a different level to ensure the best learning experience.
HindiUSA reserves the right to recommend and assign a student to the level that is considered to be in the student’s best educational interest.
6. How many students are in a class? How many teachers are assigned to each class?
We aim to maintain approximately 15 students per class. Depending on enrollment and class assignments, a class may have up to 18 students.
Generally, each class has two teachers—a main teacher and an assistant teacher. Depending on the number of students, three teachers may be assigned to a class.
7. Do all students come from Hindi-speaking families?
No. Our students come from a variety of backgrounds, including families where Hindi is not spoken at home.
We welcome students of all backgrounds who are interested in learning Hindi and exploring Indian language and culture.
8. What is the grading system?
Students will have a midterm exam and a final exam. To pass each exam, students must score at least 70% in both the written and oral components.

9. Can students opt out of taking tests?
No. Tests are an important part of the learning process and encourage students to practice, review, and strengthen their Hindi language skills.
10. Will learning Hindi be stressful for my child?
No. We strive to make learning Hindi enjoyable, engaging, and age-appropriate.

Our goal is to create a fun and positive environment where students feel comfortable learning and practicing Hindi.
11. What happens if my child misses a class?
If a student misses a class, they are expected to complete the missed homework and any prior assignments before attending the next class. Parents are encouraged to communicate with the teacher regarding any missed lessons or assignments.
12. What is the required attendance policy?
Student attendance, homework completion, and punctuality are tracked throughout the school year.
We strongly encourage students to maintain at least 90% attendance to ensure they have the best possible learning experience. A minimum attendance of 70% is required to successfully complete the school year.
13. How can students practice Hindi outside of the classroom?
Regular practice at home can make a significant difference in a student’s Hindi learning and progress.
We recommend that students:
Students may receive online access to self-learning resources and digital flashcards, depending on their level, available flashcards, and the syllabus for their class.
14. Is the emphasis on speaking or writing Hindi?
We focus on developing all four key Hindi language skills:
For our youngest students, such as the S1 class, the primary focus is on developing basic Hindi speaking and comprehension skills. Writing is gradually introduced as students progress to higher levels.
15. How much homework is assigned each week?
The amount of homework varies depending on the class level and teacher.
Generally, students can expect approximately 15–30 minutes of homework per week. We encourage students to spread their practice over 2–3 days each week rather than completing everything at once. Regular practice helps students retain and strengthen their Hindi skills.
16. Do students fail, and how often?
It is rare for students to fail.
However, students who do not attend classes regularly or do not complete the required coursework may need to repeat the level to ensure they have a strong foundation before moving to the next level.
Our goal is to support every student’s learning and ensure they are prepared for the next level.
17. Does HindiUSA organize cultural activities or events?
Yes! HindiUSA St. Louis organizes two major events along with several smaller classroom and level-based cultural activities throughout the school year.
Major events include:
Food may also be available at major events for a nominal fee per family.
Throughout the year, students also participate in smaller activities such as arts and crafts related to Indian festivals, helping them learn about Indian culture, traditions, and celebrations.
17. Does HindiUSA organize cultural activities or events?

18. Can HindiUSA classes be used for my school's foreign language credit?
Yes. Students may be able to use HindiUSA classes toward their school’s foreign language credit, depending on the requirements and policies of their school district.
HindiUSA provides students with certificates that include their oral and written exam scores, which may be used as supporting documentation when requesting foreign language credit.
We encourage parents to check with their child’s school or school district regarding specific requirements for receiving foreign language credit.
Students may also be eligible for the Hindi Seal of Biliteracy. Please refer to the HindiUSA Seal of Biliteracy information for additional details on how Hindi language learning can support your child’s academic goals.
19. Where can I find the school syllabus and information about the books used?

20. Is there any default student allocation process at HindiUSA? Can there be any change to the default allocation?
As mentioned above, HindiUSA has a defined age-based default class allocation policy for all new students. After 1st year, students’ progress incrementally to the next level. We can make an adjustment to the default allocation, only during the 1st year of Hindi classes, if the child can pass our assessment test. Parents can refer to our syllabus and books and perform a self-assessment before requesting HindiUSA.
21. When should I notify HindiUSA about my child’s Hindi knowledge? How does student assessment and promotion process work?
As soon as a child is enrolled in HindiUSA classes, parents are expected to refer to our syllabus & books and assess their child’s knowledge level. One of the criteria, parents may use for assessment should be basic Hindi vocabulary and assess if a child already knows how to read, write, and say all the Hindi vowels and consonants (i.e. स्वर & व्यंजन). After self-assessment, parents can reach the school coordinator via email to [email protected]. HindiUSA will then, contact parents and perform an assessment test to move the child to the appropriate level.
22. What if I can’t assess or missed to notify the school coordinator about my child’s assessment and promotion request? Till when can I notify?
No worries. You will have up to 2 weeks of starting the classes, wherein you can work with the assigned class teacher and make a request to teachers to assess the child. Teachers will also, be monitoring the students, and based on the parent requests, assigned homework or class performance within initial 2 weeks, teachers may make a recommendation to school coordinator.
23. When will my child receive the books?
Books and other required learning materials will be distributed to students on the first day of classes.
24. How will parents be notified about school cancellations, such as snow days?
Parents will be notified about school cancellations through email and/or the WhatsApp group, if applicable.
In the event of severe weather, such as a snow day, we will make every effort to conduct classes online when possible.
25. What is the refund policy?
HindiUSA classes are nonprofit and generally nonrefundable.
Within the first two weeks of the start of classes, HindiUSA may consider a partial refund only in unavoidable circumstances, such as a family moving out of the country due to visa-related issues.
After the first two weeks of classes, no refunds will be issued regardless of the circumstances.

27. Why can't I register my child for the Online School?
HindiUSA Online Only Schools are intended for students who do not have access to a local HindiUSA physical school.
Since HindiUSA offers in-person Hindi classes in the St. Louis metropolitan area, families residing in the St. Louis area should register for the Saint Louis, MO physical school rather than an Online Only school.
